Pupa Stage

Approximately 15 days.

Pupa Description

Bluish green with scattered white irregular spots that resemble lichens; general shape ovoid with stoutly bifid head and prominent thoracic hump. The first three instars make frass chains, later instars rest on the stem of the hostplant.

Adults Description

Upperside has greenish blue bands; underside pale brownish gray; hindwing medial line undulate.

Habits Description

Widespread and common from sea level to 1,600 m on both slopes, in association with all forest and old second-growth habitats, but less frequent in the Guanacaste deciduous forest. In lowland rain forest, this species is persistant throughout the year, most likely as breeding populations, and is occasionally found in Guanacaste during the dry season as very worn individuals.
